‘Falcons Vega MENA’ First Arab Women’s Team to Participate in Esports World Cup


Falcons Vega MENA made history by becoming the first Arab women’s team to compete in the Esports World Cup hosted in Riyadh on August 25.

The team is participating in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) tournament for women, taking place on July 24-27, with 12 teams vying for a total prize pool of $500,000.

The teams comprise 66 of the best MLBB players worldwide, representing 14 nationalities, including Egypt, Vietnam, Russia, Brazil, the Philippines, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia, Myanmar, Paraguay, the Republic of Korea, Thailand, and the United States.

Saudi Arabia’s Participation in Paris 2024 Comes Within the Quality of Life Program, Al-Bakr Says


The CEO of the Quality of Life Program, Khalid bin Abdullah Al-Bakr, confirmed that the Kingdom’s participation in the 33rd Summer Olympic Games Paris 2024 comes as part of integrated and comprehensive efforts to build a distinguished future for the sports sector in the Kingdom in order to achieve the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 in achieving sports excellence and building a vital and stimulating sports sector for young men and women in the Kingdom.

Al-Bakr said that this participation reflects the support of the country’s wise leadership for the sports sector, as well as the efforts made by the Ministry of Sports and the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee to develop the sports sector under the supervision of Sports Minister and Chairman of the Olympic and Paralympic Committee Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki bin Faisal. The efforts of the sports system have combined to achieve the strategic goal assigned by the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 to the Quality of Life Program, which is achieving excellence in severa
l sports regionally and globally by launching several initiatives concerned with supporting and empowering Saudi athletes and contributing to increasing the number of athletes participating in the Olympic Games.

Al-Bakr pointed out that the program, since its launch in 2018, has offered many initiatives to develop the sports sector, citing the Elite Athletes Development Program, which trained and empowered Saudi players participating in the Paris Olympics, in addition to initiatives concerned with supporting and empowering women to contribute to the sports system, the Saudi Games, and building sports academies, including the establishment of Mahd Academy.

Al-Bakr confirmed that the program seeks to discover, develop, and support sports talents through these initiatives, with the aim of creating a sports generation capable of competing in and representing the Kingdom in various regional and international sports games and events, in addition to keeping pace with the sport’s development achieved by advanced co
untries in sports.

NCVC Organizes Events and Volunteer Opportunities to Celebrate Mangrove Day in Several Regions


The National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification (NCVC) has organized various events, initiatives, and volunteer opportunities to plant and clean mangrove forests. As part of its campaign to restore mangroves, these activities coincide with the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem for the year 2024.

The events will include volunteer and environmental awareness programs in several regions of the Kingdom, such as Riyadh, Asir, the Eastern Region, Jeddah, and Jazan. The center will have an introductory pavilion in Jeddah and the Eastern Region to emphasize the importance of mangrove forests and their preservation in improving the environment, purifying the air, and mitigating the effects of climate change. The pavilions will also highlight the efforts made to protect them.

The center’s work revolves around planting and protecting mangrove trees. It has already planted millions of trees on the coasts of the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf and aims to gr
ow more to support the Kingdom’s efforts to plant millions of mangrove trees in the coming years. This goal aligns with the Saudi Green Initiative and the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.

SDAIA, KAUST Launch MiniGPT-Med Model To Help Doctors Diagnose Medical Radiology via AI


The Center of Excellence for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence at the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) have introduced the MiniGPT-Med model. This large multi-modal language model is designed to help doctors quickly and accurately diagnose medical radiology using artificial intelligence techniques.

Dr. Ahmed Alsinan, the Artificial Intelligence Advisor at the National Center for Artificial Intelligence and head of the scientific team at SDAIA, explained that the MiniGPT-Med model is capable of performing various tasks such as generating medical reports, answering medical visual questions, describing diseases, locating diseases, identifying diseases, and documenting medical descriptions based on entered medical images. The model was trained on different medical images, including X-rays, CT scans, and MRIs.

The MiniGPT-Med model, derived from large-scale language models, is specifically tailored for medical applicati
ons and demonstrates significant versatility across different imaging methods, including X-rays, CT scans, and MRI. This enhances its utility in medical diagnosis.

Dr. Alsinan highlighted that the MiniGPT-Med model was developed collaboratively by artificial intelligence specialists from SDAIA and KAUST. The model exhibits advanced performance in generating medical reports, achieving 19% higher efficiency than previous models. It serves as a general interface for radiology diagnosis, enhancing diagnostic efficiency across various medical imaging applications.

Minister of Economy and Planning Meets with Egyptian Minister of Planning and Economic Development


The Minister of Economy and Planning, Faisal bin Fadel Alibrahim, has met with the Egyptian Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, on the sidelines of the G20 Development Ministerial Meeting in Brazil.

During the meeting, they discussed economic relations between the two countries and reviewed issues of common interest.
