Aoun to meet Russian delegation at Baabda palace in presence of Berri, Hariri
President of the Republic, Michel Aoun, is to hold a meeting this afternoon at the Baabda palace with the visiting Russian presidential delegation, in the presence of House Speaker Nabih Berri, Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri.
The Russian delegation, led by Russian President's Special Envoy Alexander Lavrentiev, includes Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Russian Embassy Charge d'Affaire in Beirut, in addition to several diplomats, officers and advisors of the Russian Defense and Foreign Ministries.
The meeting will discuss the Russian initiative for the return of the displaced Syrians to their homeland.
The Russian delegation will take up during the meeting the plan devised by the Russian Defense Ministry in conjunction with the Russian Foreign Ministry to arrange the displaced Syrians' return to their homeland.
Attending the meeting on the Lebanese side will be Caretaker National Defense Minister Yacoub Riad Sarraf, Army Commander General Joseph Aoun, General Security chief Abbas Ibrahim, Army Intelligence chief Antoine Mansour, and Foreign Affairs and Emigrants' Ministry's Political Affairs Director Ambassador Ghadi Khoury.
Earlier, President Aoun met with Caretaker State Minister for Planning Affairs, Michel Pharoun, with whom he held a tour d'horizon bearing on most recent political developments in the country, notably government formation process.
On the other hand, Aoun met at Baabda Palace with MP Ali Fayyad, accompanied by a delegation of the Festival Committee of Wadi al-Houjeir, who invited him to attend the inaugural ceremony of the festival upcoming Saturday, August 4.
The President also met with the family and the lawyer of Lebanese Mona Mazbouh, who was detained in Egypt over insulting the Egyptian people and government in a video posted on social media.
Aoun then received the ambassador of Lebanon in Chile, Joumana Khaddaj, with whom he discussed means of bosltering bilateral ties between Lebanon and Chile, and the role of the Lebanese community in this regard.
Among Baabda presidential palace's itinerant visitors for today had been former Minister Ibrahim Shameseddine.
