Bahraini women’s milestone hailed

His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa has today issued a decree appointing Shawqiya Ibrahim Humaidan and Lamia Youssef Al-Fadhala, respectively as director-general of the Capital Trustees and the Northern Municipality.

The Supreme Council for Women (SCW) hailed the royal milestone that coincides this year with the Bahrain Women's Day which will celebrate women working in the legislative and municipal fields.

The unprecedented appointment coincides also with the centennial of municipal work which engaged women since the 1930s, thus promoting women's early political participation.

The SCW statement hailed the royal orders and directives, which acknowledge Bahrain women's competence, describing the unprecedented appointments as a major boost to Bahraini women.

It paid tribute to Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al-Khalifa, Wife of HM the King and SCW President for her keenness on empowering women, promoting their status in all fields and ensuring them equal opportunities.

The statement saluted Bahraini women's acknowledged academic competence and leadership edge, which enabled them to hold all positions and assume all duties.

The panel saluted women's strides which override the goals and indicators of sustainable development (2030 Agenda) regarding gender equality as well as women and girls' empowerment.
