Bali Volcano Spews Ash 2,800 Meters into Sky

Jakarta, Mount Agung on the Indonesian resort island of Bali shot volcanic ash 2,800 meters into the sky on Thursday, but no "destructive eruption" was expected, an official said.

"Magma is still rising to the surface so there will likely be more eruptions," said Sutopo Nugroho, National Disaster Management Agency spokesman. "But a major eruption is unlikely," he said, adding that Bali was safe to visit.

Authorities have imposed a danger zone within a 4-kilometre radius of the volcano's crater. The volcano's warning level has remained one notch below the highest advisory since February, dpa reported.
