Berri meets EOM Chief Observer
Speaker of the House, Nabih Berri, met at his Ain-el-Tineh residence on Wednesday, with the Chief Observer of the European Union's Election Observation Mission (EOM), Elena Valenciano, heading a delegation and accompanied by EU Ambassador to Lebanon, Christina Lassen.
The delegation tackled its report of the Lebanese May parliamentary elections, and the related EU recommendations.
In turn, Berri maintained that the current vote law must be amended, highlighting the necessity to introduce provisions on an election quota for women.
He also stressed that enhancing proportionality and enlarging the electoral districts would lead to "the civil state that preserves the rights of citizens instead of sects and sectarianism."
