After an American denunciation of North Korea’s nuclear disarmament, Pompeo arrives in Pyongyang
BAGHDAD, The US State Department has denied that the United States has softened its approach to denuclearizing North Korea.
"Our policy on North Korea has not changed," State Department Spokeswoman Heather Naort told reporters on the way to Pyongyang.
"We are committed to North Korea's nuclear disarmament and Minister Pompeo looks forward to continuing his consultations with North Korean leaders to follow up the commitments made at the Singapore summit," she said.
Pompeo will spend a day and a half in North Korea on Friday and Saturday, his third visit to the country and the first since the unprecedented summit between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
"I look forward to continuing our work towards a fully verifiable final disarmament of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) as approved by President Kim," said Pompeo on Twitter as he climbed into his plane.
