Aid agency: Over 660,000 displaced despite UN virus ceasefire call

Stockholm, Over 660,000 people have been forced to flee their homes due to armed conflict in the past two months despite a United Nations plea for a global ceasefire to tackle the coronavirus pandemic, dpa cited from an aid agency on Friday.
“At a time when health experts tell us to stay at home, men with guns are forcing hundreds of thousands out of their homes and into extreme vulnerability,” Jan Egeland, secretary general of the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) said.
The aid agency estimated that 661,000 people in 19 countries were forced to flee between March 23 – when UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres called for the ceasefire – and May 15.
