Macron assures the Iranian President of the need to stop fighting and open the door to negotiations in Yemen
BAGHDAD, French President Emmanuel Macron said in a telephone conversation on Sunday with his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani that efforts should be made to end the fighting in Yemen and open negotiations.
A statement issued by the French Presidency, quoted Macron during his contact with Rouhani stressing the importance of the dynamics in dealing created during the summit of the "G7" last and the need to maintain in order to create conditions to reduce escalation.
The statement added that the President indicated that there is permanent contact with Rouhani in the coming days.
Saudi Arabia has been leading a military alliance to support President Hadi's forces to regain control of the country since March 26, 2015, against the "Houthis" whom Riyadh accuses of receiving support from Iran.
The bloody conflict in Yemen, according to statistics of UN bodies and organizations, resulted in the death and injury of hundreds of thousands of civilians, as well as the deterioration of the humanitarian situation and the spread of diseases and epidemics, especially cholera, and the decline in the size of cash reserves, and the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people from their homes, towns and villages, and a major destruction of the country's infrastructure.
