Rahi from Ottawa pushes for swift government formation
Maronite Patriarch, Mar Bechara Boutros Rahi, currently on an official trip to Ottawa, stepped up calls on Prime Minister-designate, Saad Hariri, and President of the Republic, Michel Aoun, to form a cabinet as soon as possible regardless of the approval of political parties.
"Our homeland is dearer to us than all," Rahi said at a reception organized in his honor by Lebanon's Ambassador to Canada, Fadi Ziadeh, at the embassy's headquarters in Ottawa.
"Stop the consultations; it is high time to set up a new cabinet. The country is under threat of collapse according to the international community and the World Bank, which are more concerned about Lebanon than the Lebanese officials themselves," Rahi maintained.
Rahi also seized the occasion to hail the role played by the Lebanese Diaspora in Canada, thanking the country for hosting Lebanese emigrants.
