Incumbent Zimbabwean president elected
The electoral commission has declared incumbent Emmerson Mnangagwa winner of Zimbabwe's presidential vote.
In a statement issued today, the commission announced that Mnangagwa had beaten his rival candidate Nelson Chamisa by 50.8% of the votes, compared to 44.3% for opposition leader Nelson Chamisa.
The incumbent president thus reclaimed a post that was long held by ousted leader Robert Mugabe, who was toppled last November.
