Riyadh: The King Salman Global Academy for Arabic Language (KSGAAL), in collaboration with the Ministry of Sport, has announced the launch of a Glossary of Sports Terminology. This initiative aims to promote the Arabic language within the sports sector and serve as a reliable reference for commonly used sports terms for institutions and individuals in the field. The glossary comprises 1,000 sports entries, encompassing a wide range of disciplines including football, volleyball, basketball, racket sports, combat sports, mind sports, and other popular local and international sports.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the development team meticulously crafted the sports terminology with precise and clear formulations, integrating common usage within sports circles with the necessary linguistic rigor for the Arabization of terms originating from other languages. The glossary also takes into account the technical and cultural nuances specific to each sport.
The Glossary of Sports Terminology will be integrated into KSGAAL’s “Siwar” platform, which is a valuable resource for researchers and interested individuals. The platform hosts over 20 specialized glossaries across various fields and provides more than 340,000 reliable and periodically updated glossary entries through partnerships with numerous national entities.
