Berri renews call for swift government formation
House Speaker, Nabih Berri, reiterated during "Wednesday Gathering" the need to speed up the formation of the new government to address the current simmering socio-economic situation and to enable Lebanon to fulfill its international obligations, notably concerning "CEDRE 1" Conference.
Visiting deputies within "Wednesday Gathering" quoted Speaker Berri as saying he had no new information regarding the government formation process.
Visiting Lawmakers quoted the Speaker as saying that the current social and services related crises endured by the Lebanese result from several reasons, most notably the lack of the implementation of laws."
Berri deemed the rule of laws as "the main gateway to fight corruption."
The Speaker also briefed visiting deputies on the project laws which will be on the agenda of the Parliament's upcoming sessions, most notably those concerning the establishment of development councils in Akkar and Bekaa.
On the legislation of (Hashish) cannabis cultivation for medical use, MPs said that Berri has received a number of studies and doctoral dissertations on this subject, to be further studied.
On the other hand, Berri met with Deputy Antoine Habshi who presented him with his expedited proposed law on the cultivation of cannabis within controls.
This afternoon, Berri welcomed Mufti Jaafarite Sheikh Ahmed Qabalan, with talks reportedly dwelling on the general situation.
