Hariri calls on political forces and media to contribute to success of refugees return proposals
Commenting on developments related to the Syrian refugees file, and the explanations and interpretations that accompany it, the Press Office of Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri published the following:
"First, Prime minister-designate Saad Hariri welcomes international efforts to ensure the return of Syrian refugees to their homes.
In this regard, he is following the proposals announced by the Russian Ministry of Defense, which are discussed with the US administration, in the light of the results of the Helsinki Summit between the US and Russian Presidents. Prime minister Hariri, who welcomes anything that could help turn the page of the Syrian displacement and end the suffering of millions of brothers who yearn for a safe and honorable return to their country, awaits the roadmap developed by the Russian Defense ministry and hopes that the coordination with the US administration, the United Nations and other relevant parties will be a serious effort to resolve the displacement crisis.
Second, during his two official visits to Moscow in September and June, Prime minister Saad Hariri discussed the repercussions of the Syrian crisis on Lebanon and underlined "the great suffering of Lebanon because of the Syrian displacement and its social, security and economic repercussions". He insisted in his talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the need for "the political solution to the Syrian question to include the organization of the return of the displaced from Lebanon". He was updated by his adviser on Russian affairs Georges Chaaban on the details of his recent meeting with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, and the Russian proposals regarding the organization of the return from Lebanon and Jordan.
Third, Hariri emphasizes that his role in the return of the displaced stems from his national and governmental responsibilities and categorically refuses that this role be mixed with outbidding and the local political race towards useless media and popular gains. Prime Minister Hariri does not race with anyone, he races with time to help the Syrian brothers return home safely and quickly and to alleviate the social and economic burden of displacement from the Lebanese society. Therefore, Prime Minister Hariri calls on all political forces, especially the Lebanese media, to accompany the developments related to the return of the displaced and enable them to succeed, and avoid drowning them in the maze of internal disputes.
Fourth, Prime Minister Hariri underlines the importance of the missions carried out by the Lebanese General Security to facilitate the return of the displaced and secure the return of all those who request it from the Lebanese territory and hopes that these missions will complement the international guarantees and efforts to end the displacement in Lebanon and neighboring countries."
