New Prime Minister announced in Australia
Canberra, Treasurer Scott Morrison has become the new prime minister of Australia, after winning a Liberal party leadership vote on Friday.
The new premier had defeated former Interior minister Peter Dutton, his more conservative rival, by 45 votes to 40, announced an official from the Australian Liberal Party.
The new Prime Minister, who was treasurer under outgoing prime minister Malcolm Turnbull, is more moderate in his party's leadership than his rival Peter Dutton.
Morrison thus becomes the seventh prime minister in 11 years. No Australian premier managed to serve full term since 2007 due to party's internal internecine rivalries.
