Riachy on “Mechanical Week”: For designing national values and country with principles
Caretaker Information Minister, Melhem Riachy, on Tuesday inaugurated "Mechanical Week in its 10th edition, at the headquarters of Beirut Order of Engineers, in the presence of scores of concerned dignitaries.
Minister Riachy delivered a speech in which he thanked the organizers for choosing him as a sponsor of the event.
"Indeed, it is the Lebanese national architecture that brings us together," he said, adding "the architecture you mention is a pride for Lebanon, because the intelligent buildings and the glorious technology invading the world are a source of pride for Lebanese engineers."
He called for building what he termed as "national values" design and a smart nation with principles to advocate and fight for.
"I am talking here about building the national values we need," he said, stressing that collective work forms the foundation that ensures success for all parties.
In this context, Riachy highlighted a recent study by the Ministry of Information on the impact of social media on public opinion in parliamentary elections. He said the study has shown that 76% of Lebanese of any specialization aged 20 to 40, spend at least 6 hours on social media or watching their cell phones.
"How can we build the homeland and our heads are down?", he wondered, calling on experts in the field of mechanics and engineering to turn their heads up, look up.
Riachy concluded by calling for building an intelligent homeland, endowed with values and principles, just as against corruption and the corrupt, in the process of achieving a true homeland.
