Saudi ambassador launches ‘Ouminya initiative’ in support of Arsal refugee camp
Saudi Ambassador to Lebanon, Walid Bukhari, on Tuesday launched during a ceremony at the Embassy the "Oumniya Initiative" in support of the Syrian refugee camp in Arsal.
The Saudi initiative comes in the wake of Ambassador Bukhari's recent visit to the camp of Arsal, where he had firsthand look at the camp's present conditions. He also had the chance to check on the paralyzed Syrian child, Maha Mahmoud al-Rifai, who is in urgent need of treatment to avoid the deterioration of her medical situation.
The ceremony took place in the presence of a number of doctors from the American University Hospital in Beirut, including Dr. Imad Othman, who is in charge of treating the girl for free.
The Representative of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, Fahd Al-Qanas, as well as scores of media and social dignitaries attended the ceremony.
In his delivered word, Ambassador Bukhari said that Saudi Arabia has always been a pioneer in providing development and humanitarian programs, noting that King Salman Center is located in all regions of Lebanon, notably Arsal, Akkar and Wadi Khaled.
Bukhari also disclosed that the Center is set to provide Arsal camp in the coming weeks with additional support, including food baskets and special heating tools.
The Saudi Ambassador thanked the "American University Hospital" in Beirut for its readiness to provide treatment for the child, underlining the Embassy's cooperation with Dr Imad Othman in this regard within "Oumniya initiative 6."
Bukhari highlighted the Kingdom's permanent support to the displaced Syrians.
Bukhari then honored Dr. Othman and AUH medical team, conferring upon them shields of appreciation.
