Qabalan welcomes ICRC delegation: to work hard for the return of displaced Syrians to their homeland
Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Lebanon, Christophe Martin, and his advisor Basma Tabbajah, visited this Wednesday the Head of the Higher Islamic Shiite Council, Sheikh Abdul-Amir Qabban, in the presence of the Vice-President of the Council Sheikh Ali Al-Khatib.
Martin briefed his host on the activities of the mission, its humanitarian role, its support for the Lebanese Red Cross, and the assistance of Palestinian refugees and displaced Syrians, and discussed the issue of the return of displaced persons to their land and ways to secure that safe return.
Taks highlighted “Lebanon’s inability to cope with the burden of the Syrian refugees and the need for their speedy return to their country.”
Sheikh Qabalan welcomed the head of the mission, deeming its work “a gate for every humanitarian action that mobilizes people who are willing to serve fellow human beings,” “which requires supporting every action that serves people and provides them with medical, health and humanitarian assistance,” he said.
Qabalan stressed “the need to work hard for the return of Syrian refugees to their homeland, because this displacement weighs on Lebanon’s shoulders and the burden is heavy in light of the shy international support.
“The safe return of the displaced Syrians is a joint demand by all the Lebanese,” he stressed.
