The US military failed to launch an intercontinental ballistic missile
BAGHDAD, An attempt to launch an intercontinental ballistic missile of the type Minoteman-3 from a base in California failed on Tuesday.
"The missile crashed over the Pacific Ocean at 04:42 (local time) because of a fault," the US Air Force said in a statement.
The United States is periodically testing its ballistic missiles, while the last test of such missiles dates back to last April and was successful.
Despite the end of the Cold War, the United States still has hundreds of Minuteman-3 missiles hidden in underground fortifications throughout the United States.
The Air Force is working to modernize its missiles of this type over the next 20 years, replacing it with a new missile known as the so-called "strategic ground deterrent."
