UN Appoints Sigrid Kaag as Interim Special Coordinator for Middle East Peace Process

Riyadh: The United Nations has appointed Dutch Minister Sigrid Kaag as the interim Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process (UNSCO), succeeding Tor Wennesland.

According to Saudi Press Agency, Kaag has extensive experience in international affairs, having held leadership positions at the United Nations, including serving as Special Representative and Head of Mission of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons in Syria, as well as a ministerial position in the Dutch government.

United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres expressed confidence in Kaag’s ability to strengthen mediation efforts and work with all parties to support sustainable solutions for peace and stability in the region, viewing this temporary designation as part of the ongoing UN efforts to enhance its role in achieving a just and lasting peace in the Middle East.
