Bou Habib discusses situation in south Lebanon and region with Swiss Ambassador, meets Iraqi Embassy’s Acting Chargé d’Affaires

Caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrnats, Dr. Abdallah Bou Habib, on Thursday received Swiss Ambassador to Lebanon, Marion Weichelt, with whom he discussed the situation in southern Lebanon and the broad region.

Minister Bou Habib thanked Switzerland for its supportive position for Lebanon in the Security Council, where it holds the position of a non-permanent member, and its vote in favor of the resolution extending UNIFIL’s mandate for another year, which was approved unanimously by the UNSC.

On the other hand, Bou Habib received in his office the Acting Chargé d’Affaires of the Iraqi Embassy in Lebanon, Counselor Nada Karim Majoul, who came on a courtesy visit.

Discussions between the pair reportedly touched on the course of the growing and developing Lebanese-Iraqi relations, as well as ways to advance them to achieve the interests of the two brotherly countries and peoples.

Minister Bou Habib thanked Iraq for its constant support for Lebanon and assistance to help it overcome the difficul
t conditions it is going through.

Berri meets Baarini, Bangladesh Ambassador

House Speaker Nabih Berri met on Thursday with MP Walid Baarini over the general situation and the latest political developments in the country.

Berri had earlier met with the Ambassador of Bangladesh to Lebanon, Javed Tanveer Khan, over the general situation in Lebanon and the broader region, in addition to the bilateral relations.

Iraqi Ambassador: Negotiations continue with the Kuwaiti side regarding the number of Iraqi fans


The Iraqi Ambassador to Kuwait, Al-Manhal Al-Safi, announced the continuation of negotiations with the Kuwaiti side regarding the number of Iraqi fans allowed to enter to support the Iraqi national team in the World Cup qualifiers.

Al-Safi said that we are in contact with the Kuwaiti Football Association to clarify the issue that has recently spread about allowing only 209 Iraqi fans to enter Kuwaiti territory to support their national team in its match with the Kuwaiti national team in the World Cup qualifiers.

He confirmed the continuation of negotiations with the Kuwaiti side regarding the number of Iraqi fans allowed according to the controls and regulations of the Asian Federation and the mechanism for their entry into Kuwait, and the matter will become clear to us in the coming days.

Ministry of Youth: We will officially approach the Kuwaiti side for this reason


The Ministry of Youth and Sports has settled the controversy over the entry of Iraqi fans into brotherly Kuwait to attend the match between our national team and its Kuwaiti counterpart in the World Cup qualifiers.

Minister of Youth and Sports Ahmed Al-Mubarqa said today, Thursday, ‘We will address the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to officially approach the Kuwaiti side, to find out the validity of the statements regarding the entry of Iraqi fans into Kuwait.’

He explained, ‘Coordination will be made with the Iraqi Football Association to unify positions and work similarly regarding the entry of fans.’

Social media sites and platforms circulated a statement attributed to the head of the Kuwaiti Federation, Haif Al-Mutairi, in which he said that ‘Kuwait allows only 200 Iraqi fans to enter to attend the match between the two teams in the Asian qualifiers for the World Cup.”

Bahrain All Share Index marks 1,957.49 points


Manama, Bahrain All Share Index has closed at 1,957.49 points, marking a decrease of 0.57 points below the previous closing.

This decrease was due to the drop in the material sector and the real estate sector.

Bahrain Islamic Index has closed at 805.84 points, marking a decrease of 1.17 points below the previous closing.

Results indicated that 136 equity transactions took place with a volume of 2,460,948 worth BD 665,117.

Investors traded mainly in the financial sector, representing 38.76% of the total value of securities traded.

Seventh edition of Nasser bin Hamad Marine Heritage Season kicks off Friday


Manama, The seventh edition of the Nasser bin Hamad Marine Heritage Season will kick off on Friday with the Open Water Swimming Competition (Mawrooth Swimmer).

This new open water competition is part of the seventh edition of the season and is open to participants aged between 30 and 60 years.

The first race is set for the 30 to 45 age group, covering a distance of 1,000 metres, while the second race, covering 800 metres, is designated for the 46 to 60 age group.

The race will take place in the marine area between Manama and Muharraq, opposite the Bahrain National Museum, with around 40 participants competing in both categories.

The organising committee for the open water swimming competition has finalised the necessary arrangements for the event, holding meetings with the participants and other relevant entities to finalise the rules, regulations, and safety procedures.

The Nasser bin Hamad Marine Heritage Season is one of the most prominent competitions organised by the Bahrain Inherited Traditional S
ports Committee (Mawrooth). It includes multiple competitions held over three months, aiming to revive Bahrain’s marine heritage, which has long been renowned and established the Kingdom as an important regional centre for pearl diving.

In addition to open water swimming, the seventh edition of the Nasser bin Hamad Marine Heritage Sports Season includes the traditional fishing competition (Hadaq), 30-foot traditional boat rowing races, and a breath-holding competition, which is another new event introduced this year.

Bahrain to co-organise Pan American MMA Championship in Mexico


Manama, Bahrain is set to co-organise the Pan American Amateur Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Championship, in collaboration with the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF), from August 31 to September 7 in Monterrey, Mexico.

The executive committee for this edition of the championship is led by Mohamed Qamber, President of the Bahrain MMA Federation and the Asia MMA Federation, and Head of the Bahrain Team.

IMMAF selected the Bahrain Team for this role following the team’s successful organisation of recent events, including the World Youth Championship in Abu Dhabi and the Asian Championship in Lahore, as part of the BRAVE International Combat Week.

Mohamed Qamber expressed appreciation to His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS), Chairman of the General Sports Authority (GSA), and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC), for his support of Bahraini MMA.

He also acknowledged His Highness Shaikh Salman bin Mo
hammed Al Khalifa, Vice President of the GSA and President of Bahrain Combat Sports Council, for his continuous support of combat sports, which has empowered Bahraini youth to host such global events.

Qamber further expressed pride in IMMAF’s trust in the national team and the organisational capabilities of Bahraini youth, wishing the team continued success in organising the Pan American MMA Championship.

Bahrain Boxing Federation secures third place at Sarajevo Trophy Tournament


Sarajevo, Bahrain Boxing Federation achieved third place in both the 57kg and 80kg categories at the Sarajevo Trophy Tournament in Bosnia.

The national team delegation was represented by coach Tony Davis from the Bahrain Boxing Federation, national coach Mohamed Naseem, and boxers Fahad Saleh and Ali Asad.

The national team participated in the tournament with a delegation that included Tony Davis, the Head Coach of the Bahrain Boxing Federation; Mohamed Naseem, the National Coach; and boxers Fahad Saleh and Ali Asad.

Fahad Saleh won third place and a bronze medal in the 57kg category, while Ali Asad also secured third place and a bronze medal in the 80kg category.

Rashid Feleyfel, President of the Bahrain Boxing Federation, commended the team’s performance under Davis’s leadership, noting the contribution to Bahrain’s boxing achievements. He also highlighted the support of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the efforts of His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His M
ajesty for Humanitarian Works and Youth Affairs and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS), and His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of SCYS, Chairman of the General Sports Authority (GSA), and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC).

Feleyfel also acknowledged the efforts of His Highness Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Vice President of the GSA and President of the Bahrain Combat Sports Council (BCSC), in supporting combat sports federations, which has led to continued success in these disciplines.

Feleyfel congratulated the boxers on their achievements and wished them continued success in future competitions.

Bahrain participates in first Special Olympics MENA Regional Sailing Competition in Dubai


Manama, Special Olympics Bahrain is participating in the first Special Olympics MENA Regional Sailing Competition, held on October 2-6.

Hosted by the Dubai International Marine Club, with the support of the Dubai Sports Council and in cooperation with the Special Olympics UAE and the Special Olympics International, under the supervision of the UAE Sailing and Rowing Federation (UAESARF). Six teams will participate, representing Oman, Kuwait, Morocco, Bahrain, and Syria, in addition to the Special Olympics UAE team.

Dr. Sherif El Fouly, Director of Special Olympics Middle East and North Africa, emphasised the importance of holding this event after sailing joined and spread in various programmes of the Special Olympics.

He noted that sailing was one of the sports included in the Abu Dhabi Special Olympics International Games 2019, achieving great success. It was also in the Berlin Special Olympics International Games 2023.
