“A Step into Space”… Culture and Free Thought launches the annual astronomy camp for children

The Society for Culture and Free Thought, in cooperation with Al-Aqsa University, the Center for Research and Astronomy, launched the astronomy camp for the year 2023 under the slogan “A Step into Space” and with the participation of the Palestinian Astronomical Society and the Isra and Mi’raj Astronomy Club, with the aim of encouraging children’s passion for science and enhancing their interest in space and astronomy.

The camp, which lasts for five consecutive days, aims to provide a stimulating and fun educational environment that develops children’s scientific skills, encourages them to explore the secrets of the planets, and introduces them to the solar system.

The camp includes a wide range of practical activities and workshops that include observing stars and planets, building models of the solar system, and conducting scientific experiments and simulations of astronomical phenomena.

The Director of the Center for Research and Astronomy at Al-Aqsa University, Dr. Abdul Karim Sahmoud played the leading role of the Society for Culture and Free Thought in spreading astronomical culture for children. He hoped that the Society for Culture and Free Thought Astronomy Amateur Club would become one of the most prominent international clubs and that children would become scientists in astronomy.

Director of the Sunrise and Hope Center, Khalil Fares, said, “The camp organized annually by the Society for Culture and Free Thought aims to encourage children to explore the world of astronomy and enhance their scientific curiosity, and is an opportunity for children to enjoy scientific and interactive activities in a safe environment and under the supervision of specialists in the field of astronomy.”

Fares added, "In the camp, children learn about stars, planets, and galaxies, and learn about the basic concepts in astronomy and astronomical phenomena, in addition to a variety of activities such as observing stars and planets in the sky, building models of the solar system, and conducting exciting scientific experiments. At the same time, it is an opportunity for children to learn and develop critical thinking skills." And observation
