Cairo-- Al-Azhar expressed its strong condemnation and denunciation of the burning of copies of the Holy Quran by some extremists in Sweden.

In a statement issued today, Al-Azhar affirmed that encroaching on religious sanctities is not a matter of freedom of expression, calling for the need to ensure the necessary guarantees to protect the rights of Muslims to practice their religious rites in the societies in which they live.
