Al-Halbousi Meets Shamkhani, Confirms: Iraq Looks Forward To Build Best Relations With Its Neighbors And Brothers On Basis Of Preserving Sovereignty And Good Neighborliness

Baghdad - Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi and his accompanying delegation met in Tehran today, Wednesday, with the Secretary-General of the Iranian Supreme National Security Council, Ali Shamkhani.

During the meeting, according to a statement by Al-Halbousi's office, they discussed bilateral relations between the two countries, cooperation in the security field, and the most important regional and international issues of common interest.

Al-Halbousi stressed: "Iraq looks forward to building the best relations with its neighbors and brothers, in which preserving sovereignty, good neighborliness, and protecting the rights of citizens are fixed principles in its relations, and seeks to work for the stability of the region completely through serious steps that will reflect positively on the peoples, and in a manner that secures their security and economic stability, and removes the danger and specter of wars and crises.”

For his part, Shamkhani stressed: "Iran considers sustainable political and security stability in Iraq a national and regional necessity, and that his country supports Iraq in order to achieve security and stability," welcoming Iraq's regional role in the negotiations between the countries of the region, the latest of which is the negotiations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. .
