The head of the State of Law Coalition, Nuri al-Maliki, affirmed: "Sweden's repetition of granting a license to burn the Qur'an and the Iraqi flag is a provocation to Muslims and Iraqis."
Al-Maliki said, in a tweet: "The repetition of the Government of Sweden to grant a new license to transgress once again the sanctities of Muslims and the desecration and burning of the Holy Qur'an, in addition to violating the sovereignty of Iraq in allowing the burning of the Iraqi flag in front of the Iraqi embassy, represents a provocation to all Muslims and Iraqis in particular, and proves Sweden's abandonment of its democratic principles and traditions and resorting to painful emotions that carry transgression against others."
He added: "The silence of the international community in the face of these unjustified transgressions of Muslim sanctities represent a green light for further aggression against the feelings and sanctities of Muslims," stressing the need to "stand and support all steps that contribute to responding to the attack and transgression against Muslims and desecration of their Islamic sanctities through peaceful means and channels guaranteed by diplomatic norms and international law."
