Arab Foreign Ministers Approve Egypt’s Nabil Fahmy as Arab League Secretary-General

Riyadh: The Council of the League of Arab States: unanimously approved the appointment of Egypt's nominee, former Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy, as Secretary-General of the Arab League for a five-year term beginning July 1, 2026, with the decision referred to the upcoming Arab Summit in Saudi Arabia for endorsement.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the decision was taken during the 165th meeting of the Arab foreign ministers, held today via videoconference under the presidency of the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The Arab Republic of Egypt had officially nominated former Foreign Minister Fahmy for the post of Secretary-General of the Arab League following the conclusion of current Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit's second term on June 30 this year.
