Arab League Council Opens 165th Session for Permanent Representatives with Saudi Participation

Cairo: The Arab League Council opened its 165th ordinary session of permanent representatives on Sunday at its headquarters, with Bahrain presiding.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the session included the handover of the council presidency from the United Arab Emirates, represented by Ambassador Hamad Obaid Al Zaabi, to Bahrain, represented by Ambassador Fawzia bint Abdullah Zainal.

Saudi Permanent Representative to the Arab League Ambassador Abdulaziz Al-Matar headed the Kingdom's delegation at the meeting.

The permanent representatives approved the draft agenda for the ministerial session, to be held later in the day via video conference. The agenda includes addressing Iran's attacks on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Arab states and considering Egypt's nomination of former Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy for Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, effective July 1, following the end of Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit's second term on June 30.
