ASEAN Ambassadors Explore Energy Integration with GCCIA

Dammam:A delegation of ambassadors from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) visited the Gulf Cooperation Council Interconnection Authority (GCCIA) in Dammam to learn about the region's electrical grid linkage and its role in enhancing energy security and reliability.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the visit aimed to introduce the delegation to the Gulf states' experience in electrical grid linkage and regional integration in the energy sector. The ambassadors were informed about the key achievements of the GCC interconnection, a significant joint strategic infrastructure project among member states, along with the challenges faced and lessons learned during its development.

The delegation was briefed on GCCIA's plans for expansion and efforts to enhance the power grid's capabilities, providing more options for energy exchange and trading to meet the growing demands of member states. They reviewed the operations of the control center, which plays a crucial role in supporting the security and stability of power systems.

Additionally, the delegates discussed opportunities for strengthening cooperation and exchanging knowledge between GCC and ASEAN countries in the areas of electrical grid linkage, energy security, and network development. The discussions also covered the authority's role in supporting national grids during emergencies and enhancing their resilience to address rapidly changing conditions and challenges in the energy sector.
