Jeddah:The night sky throughout October will showcase a series of remarkable astronomical events, featuring Saturn at opposition, active meteor showers, and planetary conjunctions.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the Jeddah Astronomy Society (JAS) announced that Saturn will reach opposition on October 4, making it shine brightly and remain visible all night at a distance of approximately 1.26 billion kilometers from Earth. Mars and bright Jupiter will appear closely paired with the Moon on October 5 and 6 in the predawn sky. Additionally, Mars will move through the "Beehive" star cluster from October 11 to 13. Towards the end of the month, Venus will become visible low on the eastern horizon before dawn.
Meteor enthusiasts can look forward to the Draconids meteor shower, which will peak on October 8 and 9 under dark skies, and the Orionids on October 21 and 22, with meteor rates reaching up to 20 per hour. Observers in areas with minimal light pollution may also have the opportunity to observe the Andromeda Galaxy, the Pleiades cluster, and the Milky Way before the arrival of the full "Hunter's Moon" on October 26.
