Dhaka: Members of the National Parliament of the People's Republic of Bangladesh today elected ruling National Party candidate Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir as the country's new president.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the chief election commissioner of Bangladesh announced that Alamgir won the position after securing 255 votes, while his opponent received 88 votes.
