Riyadh: The Center for Research and Intercommunication Knowledge (CRIK) in Riyadh recently welcomed Japanese Arabist professor Nobuaki Notohara for an academic and cultural visit. This visit highlights the increasing intellectual engagement between Saudi Arabia and Japan.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the visit is part of CRIK's initiative to expand international partnerships with scholars who specialize in Arabic studies. The discussions between the center and Professor Notohara focused on enhancing cultural and scientific cooperation. They explored advancing translation and academic exchange programs and organizing joint events to foster intercultural dialogue.
In addition to these discussions, there was a focus on the potential translation of Saudi literary works into Japanese. This initiative aims to introduce Saudi Arabia's cultural landscape to a wider audience. Participants also discussed translating Notohara's writings on Bedouin life into Arabic. There are plans to launch joint research, translation, and publishing initiatives to promote mutual cultural exchange.
Professor Nobuaki Notohara is recognized for his contributions to Arabic language and literature studies. He is the author of 'The Arabs: a Japanese Perspective,' which offers insights into Arab society through a Japanese scholarly lens.
