Riyadh: The desert hedgehog (Paraechinus aethiopicus) has been observed at various locations within the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Royal Reserve, signaling success in wildlife protection and ecosystem enhancement efforts.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the desert hedgehog is one of the smallest species of hedgehogs, with a length ranging from 14 to 28 centimeters and a weight between 250 and 500 grams. It is characterized by its relatively large ears and a protective covering of spines on its back, which helps shield it from predators.

The frequent sightings of the desert hedgehog indicate improved vegetation cover and habitat quality within the reserve. This also highlights the richness of biodiversity in the area and underscores the ongoing sustainability of national wildlife protection initiatives.
