Several ambassadors and consulate representatives hailed the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s ongoing efforts to balance and safeguard the rights of workers and employers, noting the Saudi government has taken significant steps to ensure the welfare of expatriate workers and to facilitate their experience in various fields.
The diplomats’ remarks were made following a ceremony organized by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development to honor entities contributing to the launch of the insurance service for domestic worker contracts. The event was attended by officials from the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Insurance Authority, Human Rights Commission, General Directorate of Passports, National Information Center, the Absher platform, and heads of several insurance companies.
The ceremony was attended by representatives from 15 embassies and consulates of countries that provide domestic workers to the Kingdom. Among them were nine ambassadors and chargés d’affaires from Ethiopia, Uga
nda, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Tanzania, Kenya, Sri Lanka, Somalia, and Nepal, as well as representatives from Indonesia, Djibouti, Sudan, the Philippines, Egypt, and India.
Pakistani Ambassador Ahmad Farooq highlighted Saudi Arabia’s initiatives to ensure the welfare of expatriate workers and facilitate their experience in various areas.
Kenyan Ambassador Mohammed Ramadhan Ruwange praised the “Musaned” system for making the process more convenient for incoming workers and improving the contracting procedures between workers and employers.
Similarly, Ethiopia’s Deputy Head of Mission Rula Dami Geleta praised the digitalization of all services on the Musaned platform. Sri Lankan Ambassador Omar Lebbe Ameer Ajwad described the insurance service as “a very important initiative for expatriate workers in the Kingdom,” expressing his appreciation for Saudi Arabia’s efforts in this area.
Tanzanian Ambassador Dr. Moh’d Juma Abdalla stressed the significance of the contract insurance service, calling it a historic eve
nt that brings together labor-sending and -receiving countries. Meanwhile, Ugandan acting Ambassador Yassin Abdul Aziz Musoke emphasized the importance of the insurance service for safeguarding the rights of expatriate workers, thanking the Kingdom for launching initiatives to protect both workers and employers.
The ceremony also highlighted initiatives supporting workers’ rights, such as wage protection, contract documentation, and electronic complaint channels.
