GCC Parliament Speakers Start Conference in Jeddah 2 Jeddah
Addressing the opening session, Al Al-Sheikh welcomed the GCC parliamentarian leaders in their second country, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia which is honored to host this meeting, upon approval of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, thanking Kuwait for successfully hosting the previous meeting and congratulating Bahrain for successfully holding parliamentary elections with Ms Fawzia bint Abdullah Zenel as Speaker of the House of Representatives of Bahrain.
He also extended thanks to the GCC Secretary General Dr. Abdullatif Al-Zayani and his crew for doing a good job to prepare for today's meeting.
He recalled that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, led by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, the Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, attaches great attention to defending Arab issues at regional and international platforms, citing that the Palestinian cause occupies most of its interest to enable the Palestinian people restore their legitimate rights, including an independent state with Eastern Al-Quds as its capital, calling on the world community to shoulder its responsibilities against the Israeli violations of the world peace and stability.
He pointed to the sufferings of the Yemeni people due to the Iran-backed Houthi militias violations and maltreatment. He said the GCC countries are still working to restore peace and stability to Yemen through the Arab Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen.
Since 2014, the Kingdom has provided more than $13 billion worth of relief and development assistance to Yemen in addition to a recent donation of $500 million as part of the Swift Response Plan for the humanitarian situations in Yemen, he said.
Our countries reiterate their call for a political solution of the conflict, based on the Security Council resolution No. 2216, the GCC initiative and the Yemeni reconciliation conference outcomes, he said.
He added that our countries are also still subject to terror threats, led by Iranian danger which engulfs our region through its interfering policies and support of terrorist organizations and countries.
The Kingdom calls for standing firmly against Iran's terrorist schemes, led by developing nuclear programs and ballistic missiles as well as its occupation of UAE three islands, he said, reiterating its denunciation of the terrorist attack against Muslim worshippers in New Zealand recently.
He lent special support for Iraq in its endeavor to rebuild the country, fight terrorism and invigorate the economy.
