Sudanese Army Arrests President Al-Bashir
Khartoum, Sudanese Defense Minister Awad bin Auf announced today, on Sudan government-run TV, the arrest of Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir, who is also Chairman of the ruling Sudanese National Congress Party (NCP), under custody in a safe place, declaring the start of a two-year transitional power period under a military council under his own leadership.
In a statement issued here, he called for the release of all political prisoners throughout the country, declaring a three-month state of emergency and suspension of the constitution.
He also dissolved the presidential institution, parliament, states' council and cabinet, reassuring the states of the world that Sudan abides by international agreements.
