Swiss President from Baabda: To form a government according to legislative polls’ results
President of the Swiss Confederation, Alain Berset, on Monday hoped that Lebanon's new government will be formed according to the results of the recent parliamentary elections.
"We are aware of the challenges Lebanon is facing due to the conflict in Syria; my country hails the generosity of the Lebanese in hosting refugees, and we support Lebanon during this difficult phase," Berset told a press conference held jointly with President Michel Aoun at Baabda palace.
"What is required at this time is a sense of pragmatism to reach applicable solutions and to succeed in meeting the necessary conditions for the displaced return in the better circumstances, while continuing to work on a political solution," he said.
"We in Switzerland, are convinced that the bilateral talks are very crucial in that respect, and so is the role which the international community must assume," he added.
"There must be discussions about the Russian initiative on the repatriation of the displaced; the only place where such discussions are held is the international institutions," he continued.
"We are determined to consolidate the friendship between the two countries, and we hope for the best regarding the formation of new government according to the elections' results, which will allow Lebanon to face the challenges in the nearest time," the Swiss President said.
