Foreign Ministers Condemn Israeli Restrictions on Worship in Occupied Jerusalem

Al-baha: The Foreign Ministers of several countries, including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Pakistan, Indonesia, Trkiye, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates, have issued a strong condemnation of Israel's restrictions on religious freedom in occupied Jerusalem: The ministers expressed their disapproval of the measures restricting Muslim and Christian access to holy sites such as Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the foreign ministers emphasized that these actions by Israel violate international law and the legal status quo in Jerusalem. They reiterated their opposition to any attempts by Israel to alter the current legal and historical arrangements governing Muslim and Christian holy sites in the city.

The ministers categorically rejected Israel's restrictive measures, which they claim prevent Christians from accessing the Church of the Holy Sepulchre for religious rites. They highlighted the importance of respecting the existing legal and historical frameworks in Jerusalem, asserting that Israel, as the occupying power, does not have sovereignty over the city.

The statement also condemned Israel for keeping the gates of Al-Aqsa Mosque closed for 30 consecutive days, including during Ramadan, which they argue is a violation of international law and Israel's obligations. The ministers warned that such actions could jeopardize regional and international peace and security.

They reaffirmed that Al-Aqsa Mosque is a place of worship solely for Muslims, managed by the Jordanian Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs. The ministers called on Israel to lift restrictions and urged the international community to pressure Israel to stop its violations against religious sites in Jerusalem.
