The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed the importance of the active role of the European Union's continuous mission in providing strategic advice for the development of the security sector and its great efforts in combating terrorism in Iraq, as well as the European Union's continuous support to Iraq in all fields.
The representative of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fouad Hussein, and the Undersecretary of the Ministry, Ambassador Hisham Al-Alawi, said during the celebration activities for Europe's Day that started today, Monday in the capital, Baghdad, "I am pleased to join the celebration with friends, the Ambassador of the European Union and the Ambassadors of the European Union countries to Iraq, of Europe's Day, which represents the celebration of peace and unity of Europe after the famous Schumann Declaration on May 9, 1958 to form the European Union.
He added, "This important occasion represents an affirmation of Europe's role in promoting the values of peace, democracy and human rights in the whole world and not only in the European continent, and after more than sixty years have passed, the European Union has become today a major force in the global economy that contributes to maintaining security and stability.”
Al-Alawi stressed, "Iraq looks with affection and respect at this union, whose experience is a pioneering and interesting experience, especially after stability and peace in the world, and the European Union, and to its importance and weight on the various political, economic, social and security levels, the European Union has been and still is a major supporter of Iraq as a reliable partner in its war against terrorism and is committed to its stability, reconstruction and preservation of its security and stability.
He added, "The partnership and cooperation agreement between Iraq and the European Union, which was signed in 2012, is the cornerstone of partnership relations, during which it was agreed to enhance cooperation in various fields, including the environment sector, green transition and sustainable development," noting that "Iraq today is different from what it was before 2003.. Today's Iraq is the Iraq of democracy, pluralism, human rights, the rule of law and good governance. These values are the same as those advocated by the European Union.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs appreciated the active role of the European Union Mission to Iraq represented by Ambassador Philae Fariola and Andres Wiberg, which has worked since its establishment in 2005 to strengthen relations and support Iraq in various fields by financing the implementation of many development projects, and ensuring the continuity, development and growth of these relations.
