Riyadh: The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Agricultural Cooperation Committee held an extraordinary meeting today via videoconference, chaired by Bahrain's Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Eng. Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, with the participation of ministers and senior officials responsible for agriculture and food security from the GCC member states.
According to Saudi Press Agency, GCC Secretary-General Jasem Albudaiwi noted that the meeting was held as part of efforts to enhance the GCC food security system and enhance integration and coordination among member states, contributing to greater capacity to address regional and international challenges and developments affecting food supply chains.
He affirmed that the GCC member states attach strategic importance to food security, based on their belief that it is one of the fundamental pillars of national security and sustainable development. Albudaiwi added that the GCC General Secretariat will coordinate with the relevant authorities in the member states to develop a number of initiatives and proposals related to this field.
