New York:Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi emphasized the significance of enhancing strategic cooperation between GCC member states and European countries to support both regional and international security and stability. According to Saudi Press Agency, Albudaiwi made these remarks during a panel session at the Europe-Gulf Forum. This event was hosted by Antenna Group in partnership with the Atlantic Council and took place during the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Several ministers and senior officials from GCC states and the European Union were in attendance. Albudaiwi highlighted the importance of ongoing coordination and cooperation, citing key priorities such as protecting the security of GCC states, ensuring the safety of their people, and safeguarding critical infrastructure. He also stressed the need to reinforce maritime security and maintain the unimpeded flow of energy and global commerce. The security of maritime corridors, he noted, is a shared concern for both GCC and European countries, impacting international energy security and the stability of the global economy. He expressed optimism about the upcoming GCC-EU Summit in October 2026, to be held in Saudi Arabia, which he believes will strengthen bilateral relations. The Secretary General expects the summit to yield strategic recommendations that will enhance cooperation between the two regions. In closing, Albudaiwi reaffirmed the enduring strategic interests binding the GCC and Europe, calling for intensified collaborative efforts and impactful projects that advance the aspirations of both regions' peoples.
