Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jassem Mohamed Albudaiwi has said that the council member states are essential partners of the UN and have a major role in promoting regional and international security and peace.
Albudaiwi met Tuesday with United Nations Undersecretary-General for Security and Safety Gilles Michaud, on the sidelines of the 78th UN General Assembly in New York, with whom he reviewed common GCC and UN efforts in matters related to security, as well as topics of common interest.
Albudaiwi praised the UN Department of Safety and Security efforts to safeguard the well-being of UN staff and ensure the security of UN buildings and offices worldwide. Such efforts are essential to facilitating the UN missions to carry out their activities and programs in safety.
Michaud expressed satisfaction with the level of security and safety provided by the GCC countries to the UN offices and missions on their territories.
