GCC Secretary-General Highlights Strategic Priority for Digital Transformation

Doha: Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jasem Albudaiwi affirmed that the GCC states prioritize digital transformation in their national visions. “This comes from their recognition of the importance of modern technology in upgrading economic growth, achieving sustainable development, and enabling societies to have equal access to future opportunities,” he stated.

According to Saudi Press Agency, these remarks were made during Albudaiwi’s participation in a session organized by the Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO) on bridging the global digital divide. The session was held on the sidelines of the Second World Summit for Social Development today in Doha, Qatar, with the participation of several representatives from countries, regional and international organizations, as well as experts and specialists in this field.

At the beginning of his speech, Albudaiwi praised the role of DCO, headed by Secretary-General of the DCO Deemah AlYahya. He commended the launch of DCO’s Digital Economy Index report, which is considered one of the most prominent global initiatives for measuring countries’ progress in digital transformation and enabling a knowledge-based economy, contributing to the formulation of more effective policies for more connected and digitally balanced societies.

He pointed out that the GCC region represents an advanced model in investing in the digital economy, whether through developing telecommunications infrastructure, supporting innovation and entrepreneurship, or enhancing integration between Gulf digital markets.

“This is part of the efforts aimed at building a unified Gulf digital market that enhances competitiveness and opens new horizons,” he stated.

The GCC secretary-general concluded that the GCC will continue to support international initiatives aimed at bridging the digital divide and strengthening regional and international partnerships in this field. “This aligns with the aspirations of the leaders of the GCC countries towards a prosperous and sustainable digital future,” he stated.
