The General Authority for Caring for the Grand Holy Mosque and the Prophet's Holy Mosque removes more than 800 tons of waste monthly from the Grand Mosque to maintain a healthy, clean and safe environment.
Trash baskets comprising 2,500 are distributed around the mosque and its squares and monitored around the clock to be emptied, cleaned and disinfected continuously. Then, waste is transported on electric vehicles inside the corridors of the Grand Mosque while ensuring the movement of visitors is not hampered during the operation.
To preserve the general environment, waste is sorted during the final phase before being transported to waste compressor trucks, each with an estimated capacity of 3 tons. There are larger compressor trucks used specifically for Ramadan and Hajj seasons.
