Hariri: Private sector has important role in advancing Lebanon development agenda
Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri said that he is a firm believer that the private sector has an important role to play in advancing the development agenda of Lebanon, adding: We want to further partner with you to achieve the SDGs on the economic, social and environmental fronts.
Hariri chaired today at the Center House a roundtable of twelve executive directors for the most important companies in Lebanon, in the presence of his advisory team. During the meeting, the work and the achievements of the national network headed by MP Dima Jamali were presented. The dialogue was moderated by the Strategic Advisor of UN Global Compact Hasan Younes.
During the meeting, Premier Hariri said: I was happy to hear from you today, about the work of each and every one of you on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The success stories I heard today are an example of true partnership and complementarity between the public and private sectors.
Your contribution is key to advancing our society, to achieve sustainable development and inclusive growth for all our citizens.
I am a firm believer that the private sector has an important role to play in advancing the development agenda of Lebanon. Today, each one of you has confirmed this belief.
You all have an important role to play, whether through your Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts, or through the implementation of PPP projects in Lebanon.
Your work complements our work in the government. We want to further partner with you to achieve the SDGs on the economic, social and environmental fronts.
My priority is to support you so that your businesses can grow further. My objective is to provide you with modern legislation, modern infrastructure, and stable Lebanon. I will continue this path.
It should be noted that the objective of this initiative is to develop responsible policies and practices that have been adopted by the private sector and specifically by the executives of a large number of companies in Lebanon from various sectors to develop the sustainable development goals and put Lebanon on the global map. The national network calls on the private sector and civil society to adhere to the ten principles of the United Nations, which focus on human rights, work, environment and fighting corruption.
Over the years, more than 180 members have been committed to implement and execute the goals of sustainable development within their institutions. This meeting is considered the starting point of partnership and cooperation between the national network and the Presidency of the Council of Ministers to develop a plan for the priorities of these sustainable goals and to find solutions to the challenges and problems facing Lebanon.
The national network participated in the preparation of the Voluntary National Review (VNR), which was presented in New York in July.
Hariri also received a delegation from the Vivario Club, in the presence of the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Middle East Airlines Mohammed Hout.
After the meeting, a member of the club, Marwan Lahoud said: The delegation, which includes experienced figures in the economic, financial and political fields, is visiting the country to learn about the projects and sectors that can be invested in. The visit was arranged and coordinated with MEA.
