Jeddah:Hayy Jameel in Jeddah has launched a pottery-making course, providing participants with hands-on training in wheel-thrown pottery. The course offers an opportunity to explore surface decoration using various carving tools and introduces participants to the properties of clay, including proper preparation and wedging techniques.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the course includes practical sessions on the pottery wheel, where participants learn essential skills such as centering and opening the clay, pulling up the walls, and trimming, shaping, and finishing their pieces. The course aims to refine techniques while allowing participants to add character and depth to their creations through carving, adding handles and decorative elements, and using underglazes for color application.

In the final stage of the course, the pottery pieces are left to dry before being fired in a kiln. After the initial firing, they are coated with a clear glaze and fired again, completing their transformation into finished ceramic pieces.
