Makkah: The Heritage Commission has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Makkah Region Development Authority to enhance collaboration in the protection and development of cultural heritage sites within the region. This agreement is designed to integrate planning and development efforts with cultural heritage preservation, thereby supporting the sustainability of heritage sites and amplifying their cultural and economic influence.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the MoU aims to bolster cooperation by promoting local community engagement in cultural heritage activities and by aiding in national initiatives to document and study ancient pilgrimage routes. The agreement also focuses on developing frameworks to protect archaeological sites in alignment with established best practices.

Further collaboration will involve the exchange of technical expertise among relevant entities, which will contribute to more effective management of archaeological sites during development projects. The agreement also ensures that these sites will be monitored according to approved professional standards, thereby safeguarding their integrity and value.
