Riyadh: The King Abdulaziz Foundation for Research and Archives (Darah) has published a rare archival photograph documenting scenes of economic and social life at Riyadh's historic Souq Al-Haraj, one of the capital's most prominent traditional marketplaces and a major center of commercial activity for decades.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the photograph captures the bustling atmosphere of the market, formerly known as the date market, with vendors and shoppers filling its narrow lanes. It reflects the economic vitality of old Riyadh and underscores the central role traditional markets played in supporting commerce and strengthening social ties within the community.

The image also offers a glimpse of the capital's historic urban landscape, featuring the eastern and southern facades of old Riyadh alongside the neighboring leatherworkers' market. Date shops are visible on the right side of the photograph, illustrating the diversity of commercial activities and the interconnected nature of traditional markets.

Souq Al-Haraj remains one of Riyadh's most significant historical economic and social landmarks. It served as a vibrant gathering place for residents, merchants, and visitors while contributing to the city's commercial growth and preserving an important chapter of the capital's history.
