Riyadh: The Imam Turki bin Abdullah Royal Nature Reserve Development Authority highlighted the severe environmental consequences of overgrazing, stressing that curbing the practice is essential to protecting rangelands from depletion and preserving their natural regeneration capacity.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the authority noted in an official report that overgrazing consumes plants before they mature and produce seeds, leading to rangeland degradation, soil erosion, and weakened water retention. These pressures accelerate desertification and sand encroachment, diminish critical food and shelter for wildlife, and put nearby historic sites at risk.

Emphasizing that rangeland conservation is a collective responsibility, the authority called for adherence to sustainable grazing practices to give vegetation enough time to recover and maintain long-term ecosystem balance across the reserve.
