Industry Assistant Minister Explores Innovation, Advanced Manufacturing in Republic of Korea


Seoul: Assistant Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources for Planning and Development Dr. Abdullah Al-Ahmari held a series of meetings with senior government officials and private-sector leaders during a visit to the Republic of Korea. Discussions focused on strengthening industrial cooperation and exploring joint opportunities in advanced manufacturing, maritime industries, innovation, industrial research, and human-capital development.

According to Saudi Press Agency, Dr. Al-Ahmari met with Vice Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Moon Shin-hak to discuss cooperation in advanced manufacturing and semiconductors, as well as knowledge exchange and technology transfer in key sectors such as automotive and shipbuilding. The two officials also explored avenues for developing human capital and establishing joint programs to enhance workforce skills in Fourth Industrial Revolution applications.

The assistant minister visited the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) to discuss prospect
s for collaboration in industrial innovation, future technologies, and the institute’s Education 4.0 model, and they explored opportunities in computing, industrial systems engineering, and semiconductor systems engineering.

Dr. Al-Ahmari toured the Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyard in Ulsan and reviewed the uses of artificial intelligence in ship manufacturing. He met with Chief Operating Officer Minsu Cho to discuss opportunities for knowledge exchange and the transfer of advanced maritime technologies to the Kingdom.

The visit included stops at leading innovation centers in the Republic of Korea, including LG Sciencepark and the Samsung Innovation Museum, where he met with company executives to explore initiatives that support research and technological innovation for future industries.
