Tokyo: The Japanese stock market closed on a mixed note today following a volatile session. The Nikkei index edged down 0.1% to finish at 53,322.85 points, marking a 1.75% weekly decline despite achieving a robust 4.6% gain for the month of January.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the broader TOPIX index rose 0.59% to close at 3,566.32 points, though it also recorded a 1.7% loss over the course of the week.
