Jeddah Islamic Port Receives 60,000 Tons of Grain to Bolster Food Security in KSA

Jeddah– The bulk carrier “SARA”, belonging to the “Bahri” company, arrived at Jeddah Islamic Port from the Australian port of Banbury carrying 60,000 tonnes of grain on board, which will help boost food security in the Kingdom and is proof of the operational efficiency of Saudi ports.

A national partnership grouping the Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI), Bahri Company, SALIC Company, and Mansour Al-Masaid Company contributed to the purchase, transportation, and delivery of the shipment, from its launch until it arrived at the Jeddah Islamic Port; the partnership enhances the leading position of the Kingdom in bulk cargo transportation regionally and internationally.

The journey of the ship “SARA” attests to the capabilities of the leading national companies to transport bulk cargo, and to the Jeddah Islamic Port’s high operational efficiency and superior capability to receive various sizes of ships and types of goods. It also confirms the effectiveness of national investments in enhancing the sustainability of supply chains and support food security, by providing logistical support for national and international carriers, consolidating the competitive advantages of Saudi ports, and making them a primary hub for the operation of major shipping and logistics companies.

Jeddah Islamic Port enjoys pioneering operational characteristics and advantages, as it includes 62 multi-purpose berths, with a capacity of about 130 million tons of goods and containers, several specialized stations and advanced equipment.

In 2022, Jeddah Islamic Port handled 516,375 tonnes of bulk cargo, a 3.16% increase over 2021, which recorded a handling volume of 500,578 tonnes. The total volume of various goods handled by the port during the past year amounted to some 57 million tonnes.
